December 6, 2011

We played Crazyhorse Steakhouse & Saloon (www.crazyhorsehagerstown.com) on Friday Dec. 2 and had a great crowd, lotsa fun and great food.  There was a young artist who was in the crowd and sketched a quick rendition of me at the microphone –  what a talent she is!  (I will try to upload it on our photos page – not bad for a 5 minute sketch, hmm?).  You can find the artist, Amy Syverson, on Facebook.  She creates all kinds of cool stuff.

Our next gig will be Saturday, Dec. 17 at Always Ron’s in Hagerstown (www.alwaysrons.com) “where good friends and good food meet.”  There is great food to be had here and a night of rockin’ blues in this restaurant that has been a Hagerstown favorite for many years. Always Ron’s also offers 24 craft beers on tap.

I continue to book for the coming 2012 year with some new venues under way (Branded 72, Potomac Grill and more) – stay tuned for details!

November 27, 2011

We are really looking forward to our gig tomorrow night - Thanksgiving Eve - at Branded 72 in Rockville. We will play from 8 - 11 PM and have special guest, Chip Clemmer, on drums.  Get there early (happy hour) and see the Pucker vodka girls who should have some free samples to get you started.  You deserve a break before the family descends and you are up to your elbows in food - come on out and party with us!

November 5, 2001

We are looking forward to our gig tonight at the Frederick Elks Club.  You don't have to be a member to attend on band nights and the bonus is the incredibly tasty and thrifty menu and drink prices.  Save $$$$ while enjoying a night out in their comfortable lounge.  We will have special guest Tom Taylor on guitar (Jeff is out of town) so you are in for a special treat.

We also have a new gig listed for Thanksgiving Eve (our debut at Branded 72!) and our 2012 calendar has new additions....check it out!

October 20, 2011

Wow....what a great night we had for our 1st time at Always Ron's - so many friends - both old friends and new, came out to support us and live music - we feel truly blessed. Thanks to Charles Schattenberg who played a few and wowed the crowd by playing 2 saxes simultaneously and Frank Lane for getting up and playing some harp with us.

October 5, 2011

We had a blast playing the fundraiser at the Buckeystown Pub this past weekend.  Huge thanks go out to Randy Snowman who sat in on drums for us and Danny Goers who sat in on Bass.  It was a rockin good time and a successful one for Fisher House.  Thanks to everyone who came out and showed their support and to Bob Morris of The Bobby Lewis Blues Band for organizing it!

September 22, 2011

October is right around the corner (sheesh - how did that happen??) and we have a cool gig coming up!

The first Saturday of October Carl and I will be participating in a multi-band fundraiser for
FISHER HOUSE with some friends sitting in on drums and on bass.  (This group will be billed at "The Liz Springer Band" since not all of Built 4 Comfort is available to play that day.)  Lots of great music, food and the opportunity to help military families just by being there so we'd love to see you! Here are the details:

Sat., Oct. 1

The Buckeystown Pub
6803 Michaels Mill Road
Buckeystown, MD 21717
Phone: (301)662-9465
www.buckeystownpub.com

Organized by Bob Morris of the Bobby Lewis Blues Band, this is a benefit concert for the best charity he knows. They support the families of our military (see more info about Fisher House below).

The show starts at 4:00 PM and ends at 10:30 PM and includes the following bands:

The Bobby Lewis Blues Band
The Bad Influence Band
The Liz Springer Band
The Vincent 52 Band

The event is under a huge tent with seating and a dance floor and will take place rain or shine. Great food and drink are available at the pub.

Tickets are on sale now at the pub at at Hershey's Restaurant in Gaithersburg (
www.hersheysatthegrove.com) for only $5.00.

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. Please visit
www.fisherhouse.org
for more information, and come on out and support a great cause!

September 21, 2011

Wow...what a busy weekend last weekend.  We really enjoyed our time at The Greenbelt Blues Festival with
Chip Clemmer handling drums for us and then had a total blast at Hershey's for the first time....what a cool room to play - lots of super cool people to hang with - a birthday party celebration and yes, they do have some of the best fried chicken around!  We can't wait to play there again!

We had a GREAT time at
The Pelican Restaurant on Saturday night - we got lots of compliments on our music and the venue got nice compliments on their food.  Many thanks to all our friends and fellow musicians who came out to the show (esp. John Fancey who played some harp with us and sang a song).  We will be back in the new year when they start booking bands again after football season.

Our date at Danielle's on Sept. 10th was cancelled as we were informed the venue will be limiting their live music to smooth jazz bands effective immediately at their landlord's request.  I am working on securing another venue for that date if possible.  Stay tuned.

Hope you all are doing well as the Summer heats up!

We had our first gig at
JV’s Restaurant in Falls Church, and it was a blast. You can’t ask for a better host than Ms. Lorraine Campbell – she even provides a tip bucket and we made our first tips…woo hoo! Superman/Clark Kent even made an appearance (you can see his pics on her Facebook page) and we had a great group of dancers and special musical guests, Eric Fredenburgh and Scott Barham, who got up and did some very cool numbers including a parody of “Hoochie Coochie Man” that was off the hook! I was HOWLING at Scott’s creative/funny lyrics.

We are playing
Hard Times
Café & Cue in Frederick for the first time this Friday night (9 PM – 1 AM). Come on out and have some of their famous chili, play a game of pool or just listen to us play some blues & classic rock . We’d love to see you there!

June 28, 2011

It has been a busy Summer so far – I’ve been booking new venues for us – including one in Montgomery County in August (The Pelican Restaurant in Germantown, formerly Pelican Pete's). I hope it is going well for everyone on our list, and we hope to see you soon at one of our shows – we love to see your smiling faces!

This Saturday night I will be performing with The Crimestoppers from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM at The Tiki Bar – the outdoor venue located outside the Star Diner in The Kentlands. Here is the info:

It has been a busy Summer for me and I can’t believe it is June already. And the heat is here in full force (didn’t seem like much of a Spring did it?). I am excited about our upcoming gig at Dunmor’s this Saturday night in Gaithersburg. This neighborhood tavern has such a friendly vibe with people who dig the music and sometimes there are even dancers – we hope they come back this time – I dig watching them do their thing.

Here is the info for Saturday, June 4:

Dunmor's Tavern
18257 Flower Hill Way, Gaithersburg, MD
9PM - 12AM

Dunmor's is a great neighborhood hangout/sports tavern in the Flower Hill neighborhood of Gaithersburg that offers tasty food, sports events on large screens and fantastic bartenders (say "hi" to Amy if you stop in - formerly of Dad's Pub). We hope to have some special guests at this show * Please come on out and help support live music !

I have been performing with the band The Crimestoppers this Summer. The Crimestoppers have their own regular & very talented front man, Danny Jones. He can’t always make the outdoor gigs so I fill in when necessary. If you get the opportunity to see them sometime, you should. You will be treated to some very well done & juicy classic rock & blues (including but not limited to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Jackson, Los Lobos, the Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, the Blasters, Neil Young, and Jimi Hendrix). Their website is
www.thecrimestoppers.com.

I will be performing with The Crimestoppers this Friday night from 7:30 - 8:30 PM at the Montgomery Village Lawn Theater as part of their 2011 Summer Concert Series. This will take place at 18850 Montgomery Village Ave. in Montgomery Village. Parking is avail behind Watkins Mill Elem School on Watkins Mill Rd. In case of rain, call 301-948-0110 x2334 after 5 PM for cancellation info. Come on out and bring the family! You can find info at w
ww.montgomeryvillage.com as well.

May 18, 2011

Hi everybody – I have some news that isn’t directly regarding Built 4 Comfort but thought I’d share anyway.

This past weekend, I performed with The Crimestoppers at the Naptown BarBAYq Festival in Annapolis and was on the biggest stage ever (for me anyway). I had to climb a bunch of stairs to get up there and everything - it was way cool :)

This Saturday night, I will be performing with them at the Wing Hub in Bethesda, MD from 8 – 12. Come and check it out – we will be outside if it isn’t raining. Visit
www.winghub.com for address/info.

There is a new blues jam in town! Ronnie Ray & The Coolers will be the host band on Thursday nights starting at 8:00 PM at Always Ron’s Restaurant in Hagerstown. Check out their website for more info at
www.alwaysrons.com .

Built 4 Comfort will also be playing this venue in October (see schedule).

May 11, 2011

Thanks to everyone who came out to Danielle's this past Saturday night - we had a great time and had a couple of special guests sit in:  Joe Galicic on some monster harp and Chris Adams of The Chris Adams Band on guitar - 2 great players and friends of the band.  Check them out if you ever get a chance.

Our next gig is scheduled for Saturday, June 4th at Dunmor's Tavern, a friendly neighborhood hang out in Gaithersburg (9 PM - 12 AM).  We hope to have some exciting guests at that show as well.  Come on out and come early for a seat.  No cover and good food! :)

In the spirit of continuous improvement and the opportunity to perform more frequently, I am going to be performing with a band called The Crimestoppers at various times throughout the Summer.  I have been fortunate enough to be asked to do this by this great group of musicians and it has been a fun ride.  It has given me exposure to different types of gigs and the opportunity to get to know new folks.

This Saturday I will be doing a set with them at the Naptown BarBAYq in Annapolis, MD.  Our set will run from 12:05 PM - 1:05 PM.  So if you are out and about in or around Annapolis, come on out for fun, family activities, multiple bands, a beer garden and GREAT BBQ!

Visit
http://www.barbayq.com for more info.

This Past Weekend

What a great weekend for music. Saturday I sat in with The Crimestoppers and did a set at Mike Numera’s Guitar Army event at
The Whiskey in Annapolis to benefit The Tigerlily Foundation (breast cancer). Carl even got to sit in for a few and it was a great day of music. So many amazing musicians gave their time and played sets from noon through the evening. My personal faves were John Bell and Jonny & The Stingrays who both played upstairs. Got to see some musician buddies & made some new ones….I hope to do it again next year.

On Sunday, Built 4 Comfort hit Hagerstown to play an event for Chase Rubek, a young boy fighting cancer, only to be rained out (we still heard some good musicians do their thing though!).

Next Gig

This coming Saturday, May 7th we will be at
Danielle’s with some rockin’ Blues/R&B and Classic Rock. Please join us – weather permitting, we may be setting up on the back patio. We enjoy playing Danielle’s where there is always a cool vibe and good food & friends.

New Blues Jam

Finally, there is a new blues jam in town that could use your support….….whether you are a blues fan or a musician, Sunday nights at
Bentz Street Sports Bar is the newest place for the blues. The jam is run by Dennis Wright of BluesGate
and runs every Sunday from 6-9:00 PM (I hear musicians’ sign up starts at 5:00 PM). Built 4 Comfort hopes to host one Sunday night soon and urges all their fellow blues musicians and blues supporters to check it out. Let’s keep live music – especially BLUES MUSIC – alive and well in the area.

April 6, 2011

January 27, 2011

I am so proud of Built 4 Comfort for their willingness to help others by volunteering their time to play at the benefit last Saturday.  From Jeff Cooperman (event organizer):

"A big thanks to Liz, the guys in Built 4 Comfort and all those that came out! You really made it a fun night with great music! Including a few added contributions we raised $500 plus some food donations. Thanks again! Cordially, Jeff C. of Sean Collins and the Backbeats P.S Thanks to Donna and the folks at Cactus Flats too!"

We had a great night, enjoyed Sean Collins & the Backbeats very much and would also like to thank Joe Galicic for getting up and blowing some amazing harp with us on some songs.

We are transitioning in a new bass player, Gene Beavers.  We will miss Bernie Hromek tremendously (I'm gonna cry if I type much more about that), but his work schedule has become soooo busy (which is good news on that front for him)...look for more info soon on Gene who will be playing the charity gig with us on 1/22 at Cactus....he is a guy with a great groove and he fits right in.  Bernie's last gig with us will be at Dunmor's in Gaithersburg on 1/29.

We have been asked to participate in a benefit that will be held on Saturday, January 22nd at Cactus Flats, and we would love to have your support for the cause.

Proceeds raised at the event ($5 at the door, any canned food donations you may be able to make, and any other money raised, i.e., 50/50 raffles) will go to the Frederick area homeless and hungry via the Frederick Community Action Agency (for info on this organization, please visit:
http://www.cityoffrederick.com/cms/page/index.php?id=124).

Jeff Cooperman, bass player of the band "Sean Collins and The Backbeats" (Oldies/Motown/R&B) is organizing the event, and we will be splitting the night musically with them. This is an event put on yearly by Jeff (who you may also know from the Georgia Lea and Stone Cold Country Band).

The bands are donating thier time for this cause and hope that you can come on out and show your support for those less fortunate in the Frederick area.
