Try Hershey’s Restaurant. It is a delightful time capsule of a family restaurant, circa 1952, located on Oakmont Avenue in Gaithersburg. Even the restaurant’s exterior surroundings – an isolated country lot set down next to the train tracks – seem to evoke the past. Lisa Gorman is the owner and proprietor of Hershey’s. Lisa grew up in Bethesda. A former director of facilities for the Marriott Corporation, Lisa moved in the same circles as a number of county restauranteurs and was always interested in becoming one herself. Since purchasing Hershey’s six years ago, Lisa has updated the décor, added a back deck, and put some of the regular specials on the menu. Speaking of the menu, on it you’ll find a range of foods, from ribs, fried chicken and New York strip, to the jumbo lump crab cake sandwich and Caesar salad. Hershey’s has a number of regular patrons, most of who cheerfully vie to sit near the window and watch the trains pass. But it is eager for a new generation of families, searching for good food at a reasonable price in a comfortable atmosphere. Here’s another reason to go. On weekends, when the weather is warm, there is a flea market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the large parking lot behind the building.
